How to Choose a Campervan-Friendly Festival

Not all festivals treat campervans equally. Some run dedicated live-in vehicle fields with water points, toilet blocks and even electrical hookup; others offer little more than a corner of a car park. Before you book, check three things: whether the festival sells a specific campervan or live-in vehicle ticket, what facilities the vehicle field actually includes, and any length or height restrictions that might rule your van out. What does a “live-in vehicle ticket” mean?

A live-in vehicle (LIV) ticket is a separate pass, bought on top of your standard festival ticket, that entitles one campervan, motorhome or converted van to a pitch in a designated field where you are allowed to sleep in the vehicle. It normally covers the vehicle rather than the people inside it, and most festivals require every occupant to hold a regular weekend ticket too. Day-parking passes are not the same thing — sleep in a vehicle on a parking pass and you risk being moved on or ejected.

Book early and arrive prepared

Campervan allocations are almost always far smaller than general camping capacity, so pitches routinely sell out months before the festival — at the biggest events, within minutes. Book your vehicle pitch at the same time as your festival tickets. Then plan for self-sufficiency: even well-equipped festivals expect you to arrive with a full fresh water tank, an empty waste tank and enough leisure battery capacity to see out the weekend, because taps and service points are shared between hundreds of vans.
