How We Verify Converters
The UK conversion market is largely unregulated — anyone can call themselves a converter. This page explains exactly what we check, what our badges mean, and how the Trust Score is calculated. No business can pay to change any of it.
What we check
Companies House registrationre-checked monthly
We match each business to its Companies House record and check its status and incorporation date. Dissolved or liquidated companies are flagged for review.
Public liability insurance
We record whether a converter declares public liability cover and, where provided, the level of cover. Shown on the profile when verified.
Gas Safe registration
Any converter fitting gas systems should hold Gas Safe registration with the LPG modules. Where a registration number is verified it appears on the profile with a link to the official register.
Industry accreditations
NCC approval, VCA type approval and similar industry schemes, checked against the relevant scheme where records are public.
Trading history and address
Business address, trading name consistency, and years in business.
Website and portfolio reviewre-checked monthly
We check the business website is live (re-checked automatically) and review the portfolio for genuine, recent work.
The three vetting tiers
Basic
Listed in the directory with baseline identity checks. Profile data comes from public sources and has not been through our full verification process.
Verified
The business is confirmed as legitimate: Companies House registration and insurance declarations checked, contact details confirmed with the owner.
Accredited
Everything in Verified, plus checks on industry accreditations (NCC, Gas Safe and similar), a minimum portfolio review, and ongoing quality monitoring.
Each profile shows its tier next to the converter's name, and the “Verification & vetting” panel lists each check individually — including the ones we haven't been able to verify yet. We never show a green tick for something we haven't checked.
How the Trust Score works
Every converter gets a Trust Score out of 100, computed automatically from seven weighted factors. The weights are published here in full:
| Factor | Weight |
|---|---|
| Customer reviews (rating and volume) | 30% |
| Vetting tier | 20% |
| Profile completeness | 15% |
| Responsiveness to enquiries | 10% |
| Years in business | 10% |
| Accreditations held | 10% |
| Portfolio size | 5% |
Scores update automatically as reviews arrive, profiles are completed, and verification checks run. The same score drives our best conversion companies ranking — it is not editorial opinion.
What verification is not
Verification confirms a business is legitimate and accredited as claimed — it is not a guarantee of workmanship, price, or delivery. Before commissioning a build: view completed conversions in person, speak to recent customers, confirm gas and electrical sign-off arrangements, and get everything in writing. If information on a profile looks wrong, use the “report” link on that profile and we'll re-check it.
Frequently asked questions
Can converters pay for a higher Trust Score or ranking?
No. The Trust Score is computed from the weighted factors published on this page and no business can pay to change it. Paid plans unlock profile features (photos, analytics, featuring) — never the score itself.
How often is verification repeated?
Companies House status and website liveness are re-checked automatically every month, and each profile shows a "last verified" date. Accreditation and insurance details are re-checked when a profile is claimed or updated, and whenever an issue is reported.
Does verification guarantee the quality of a conversion?
No — verification confirms a business is legitimate, insured and accredited as claimed. It is not an endorsement or a guarantee of workmanship. Always view previous builds, speak to recent customers, and get a written contract before paying a deposit.
