Why Go
Latitude strikes the perfect balance between world-class music and a genuinely relaxed, cultured atmosphere. The programme blends headline acts with comedy, poetry, theatre, dance, and literary events. It is widely regarded as the most civilised major festival in the UK, making it ideal for families and first-timers. It is also perfectly placed for a Suffolk coast holiday: Southwold, with its pier, beach huts and brewery, is just up the road, and Aldeburgh, Dunwich and the heathland of the Suffolk coast are all within a short drive. Many families treat Latitude as the centrepiece of a week or ten days in the van, which takes all the pressure off the festival days themselves — no long drive home with tired children on Monday morning. Late July also gives you long evenings, so there is plenty of daylight left after the headline slots to wind the kids down back at the van.

Latitude is exceptionally campervan-friendly with dedicated, well-maintained campervan fields. Pitches are generous in size and the ground is typically firm. The campervan area has good toilet and water facilities, and is within easy walking distance of all stages. There is no separate campervan ticket required beyond the standard pitch booking. If you are bringing children, the van is a genuine advantage here: blackout blinds and a familiar bed make festival bedtimes far easier, and an awning or windbreak gives you a shaded base camp for daytime downtime. Pack ear defenders for younger kids and a wagon or festival trolley for the walk to the arena. Even with good facilities on site, arrive with your fresh water tank full and your toilet cassette and grey tank empty — queueing to fill up mid-festival with a bored toddler is nobody’s idea of a holiday. A fully charged leisure battery will comfortably handle lights, phones and the fridge over the weekend, with solar a nice bonus in late July. Pitch courteously: leave room for neighbours’ awnings, keep guy lines inside your plot, and remember the campervan fields are family territory, so late-night noise travels badly.
