The van and the fit-out are different bills

A T5, a T6 and a T6.1 are the same basic shape: a compact panel van, no factory high roof, and a conversion that usually needs a pop-top or high-top if you want to stand up. The fit-out — insulation, furniture, electrics, kitchen — can be very similar on all three. What changes sharply is what you pay for the base vehicle, and what is left in it after years of use.

This guide does not publish a surveyed "average T6.1 conversion premium". Workshops price the work in front of them. Later model years hold their value more stubbornly. That is a resale point, not a reason the furniture costs more.

How to budget

1. Price three example vans (a tidy late T5, a T6, a T6.1) at the mileage you would actually buy. That spread is your vehicle budget.

2. Pick one fit-out spec and stick to it: roof, bed, kitchen, electrics, heating.

3. Run that spec through the calculator.

4. Ask two or three VW-capable workshops to quote that spec on the van you will supply, with VAT stated. The quote checklist is the sheet to use.
